Anchor Point, Alaska - Located 210 miles from Anchorage or 70 miles southwest from Kenai, Anchor Point is noted as the most westerly point in North America that is reachable by road. - Anchor Point is well known for being the most westerly highway point you can drive to on the North American continent. When you drive down to the beach access, you have the chance to get in a photograph under the landmark sign with the beach and mountains in the backdrop. - The Anchor River is one of the Kenai Peninsula's major salmon fishing streams. Starting in June and producing abundant fish through August, very good runs of chinook, (king salmon) silver salmon, dolly varden char, and steelhead return to spawn in this stream every year. All you need to fish this river is a medium weight salmon rod preferably about 8 1/2 foot in length, a strong reel, 12 to 20 lbs test line and some of flashy lures. Hip boots allow you to wade and cross the river at will, and don't forget the fillet knife.
- Off Shore Saltwater Charters - Without any doubt, halibut and saltwater salmon fishing in Anchor point is a growing fishery. There are tractor launches ready to get you into the water and off on a Alaska fishing adventure this summer.
- A visit to the Russian Village of Nikolaevsk should be on your agenda. Located nine miles up the North Fork Road from Anchor Point is the small russian village of Nikolaevsk.
