to expect if you decide to visit. Follow the links provided to read more
about the in-depth look at each locality before you arrive.
Anchor Point Alaska – Located
on the Sterling highway between Ninilchik and Homer.
Best noted for halibut fishing charters, salmon fishing, clam digging.
There is lots of fun to be had here
from camping on the beach to an evenings stroll through town. Bring your
camera and plenty of film as there is much to see and do in Anchor Point
AK.
Cooper Landing Alaska – is
situated in the most magnificent scenery on the Kenai Peninsula. Virtually
surrounded by towering mountains with aspen, birch, and evergreens that
give way to barren mountain sides above tree level. Cooper Landing is
the place to see wildlife
like sheep, goats, moose, bear, eagles and so very much more. Fishing, Rafting,
Photography, Wildlife Viewing, Sightseeing, Hiking all fill the days
of those adding Cooper Landing to their itineraries for their Kenai Peninsula
Vacations. Cooper Landing is located just 97 miles from Anchorage or
110 miles from Homer.
Homer Alaska – The Halibut
Capitol of Alaska and the jumping off point for tours of
Kachemak Bay, whale watching, and semi-remote holiday excursions to
Kachemak Bay State Park. One of the most visited destinations on the
Kenai Peninsula. It's Two Thumbs Up for Homer AK for the Kenai Vacation
Itinerary. Also see Homer AK Cabins
for Rent for additional Lodging info.
Hope Alaska – Lesser known
for it's off the beaten path location, Hope is one of those lost jewels
in a wilderness of confusion. If a relaxing time is what
you are looking for, look no further then Hope AK for a real Gold
Rush town from the turn of the century. Hope has some great campgrounds
as is well known for its hiking trails including Resurrection
Pass. Lets give this one Five Gold Stars for our suggested Kenai
Destination Itinerary.
Kenai Alaska – The City
of Kenai itself is more of a bedroom community to the more popular city
of Soldotna just 7 mile away. There is little
available in Kenai, and virtually no major tourist attractions. The most
prominent tourist facility in Kenai would be that the main airport for
the Peninsula is located here. Overall the people of Kenai continue to
fight development and currently are petitioning to block an attempt to
rezone an area to allow a new dental office to be built. The city of
Kenai's only claim to fame is in the yearly salmon dipnetting that takes
place at the mouth of the river.
Moose Pass Alaska – Another
of those peaceful destinations nestled in the valley between towering
mountains. There’s a great hotel and restaurant with a gazebo on
the shores of Trail Lake. You can take a flight seeing trip or cast for
trout in the lake, hike into the blueberry covered meadows or to one
of the a high mountain lakes in the area.
Nikiski Alaska – Home
to the Tesoro Petroleum Refinery, Conoco Phillips LNG plant, and the
now closed, Agrium ammonia and urea fertilizer plant. Nikiski is home
to a number of radical
militia groups and is where numerous offshore oil platforms produce
much of the crude oil used in the Tesoro Refinery. These offshore
oil platforms can be scene from the drive along the Spur Highway.
As the oil and gas production diminished many of the once thriving businesses
closed or abandoned their Nikiski facilities leaving behind an area now
known locally as the Rust Belt of the Kenai Peninsula.
Deep Creek & Ninilchik
Alaska – Similar to Anchor Point in many ways,
Ninilchik is located on the Sterling highway between Soldotna and Anchor
Point. Best noted for halibut
fishing charters, salmon fishing, clam digging and the historical
Russian Orthodox Church that site predominantly on the hill overlooking
the town. Deep Creek is accessed just past
the town of Ninilchik on the way to Homer.
Both have tractor launches to aid in launching your personal boats
on the beach.
Seldovia Alaska – Located
17 miles across the bay from Homer with accessed
limited to either water or air, Seldovia is the locals favorite in vacation
destinations for many good reasons. The town retains its rich heritage
and the flavor is of a well cared for seaside town. Do yourself a favor
and Do Not Pass Up Seldovia during your Kenai
Vacation.
Seward Alaska – Drop on
over to the southern side of the peninsula and travel down to the end
of the Seward Highway where you will find the scenic waterfront town
of Seward. Located at the head of Resurrection
Bay, Seward’s busy seaport is the home to a large fleet of tour
boats, fishing charters, and a busy cruise ship dock. This town has
everything you could desire from outstanding waterfront
hotels to beach camping in the city run campgrounds. And if that’s
not enough, just wait tell you see all the souvenir shops this town sport.
Also see Seward AK Motels and Seward
AK Cabins for Rent for additional Lodging info.
Soldotna
Alaska – is the center of everything that happens
on the Kenai Peninsula. From here it's just a short hop to all destinations
on the peninsula. This is also the Kenai River Salmon Fishing headquarters
where you find the majority of guides as well as plenty of places
to stay in Soldotna that offer world famous Kenai River Salmon
Fishing. The WOW factor is high for the fishermen in Soldotna. Also
See Soldotna Fishing Charters for
more on the Best of the Kenai.
Sterling Alaska – This is where the Moose River
enters the Kenai River at Isaac Walton State Park and Campground. Although
this is a small town, all your needs are met from outstanding dining
at Suzies Diner to lodging from the many cabins and lodges in the town.
There is a small motel as you enter town for the weary travelers wishing
for a good nights sleep. Excellent sockeye salmon fishing at the confluence
of the rivers is available for the fisherman in the party.
Kenai Peninsula Lodging. Vacation Ideas from Kenai Lodges!
Get in on the end of the summer specials from Kenai Lodges in
AK. Peninsula wide, lodging rates have remained steady while at the same
time vacancy rates are at an all time high, and the traditional peak
summer rental season has yet to see the no vacancy signs in the windows
in all but the most well marketed facilities of the state. Take advantage
of this slowdown in tourism and call the management directly inquiring
about any special seasonal rate for your stay. This is becoming a common
practice with sites like Priceline.com for everything from Airline Flights
to Motel rooms. Most places both here in Alaska as well as around the
country will negotiate a lower rate or include some concessions in order
to secure your reservation. Be forthcoming and call about a bargain rate
before you arrive. Today, you really can see Alaska on a budget, call
for as many money saving offers as your time allows for. Get the same
clean hotel, same room, same car, just at a much lower rate. You save
big, they fill their rooms. Everyone wins on this one.
